Construction

DTU Dynamo has been constructed on the basis of a self-supporting carbon fiber monocoque construction. The monocoque has been designed to have as low weight as possible, while maintaining sufficient strength and stiffness to support the weight of driver, engine, fuel, luggage and extra loads exerted on the car.

Both the monocoque and the exterior shells has been designed by DTU students and cast at the Department of composite materials at DTU Campus Risoe. The driver and engine have been placed as close to the center of the vehicle as possible in order to improve driving characteristics and optimal traction by distributing the weight evenly between the cars four wheels. The engine is placed directly behind the driver, separated by the monocoque and a carbon fiber firewall.

Engine placement
The engine is placed directly in front of the powering axle and has been angled in such a way that the piston is operated almost horizontally. All of the wheel wells are covered by carbon fiber fenders in order to improve safety ,as well as the aerodynamics of the vehicle, and are designed in such a way that it is impossible for neither driver nor spectators to come in contact with the wheels during the competition. The gearbox has been placed in such a way that it is located right between the two rear wheels in order to ensure optimal placement of both engine and gearbox.
